Russian billiards, also known as Russian Pyramid, is a popular billiards game played on a large table with narrow pockets. It's a different game than American pool or snooker, with variations in table size, balls, and rules. The game is played on a large table, typically 12ft x 6ft, with 16 balls (15 white and numbered, one red cue ball).

Here's a more detailed look at what makes Russian billiards unique:

Key Differences from Other Billiards Games:
  • Table Size:
Russian billiards tables are larger than standard pool tables and are also preferred for snooker.
  • Balls:
The balls are larger and heavier than pool balls.
  • Rules:
The rules vary depending on the specific variation of the game, such as "Combined Pyramid," "Classical Pyramid," or "Free Pyramid".
  • Playing Style:
Russian billiards often involves a more defensive style of play and a greater emphasis on precision and carom shots.

Common Variations:
  • Free Pyramid: Players can pocket any ball in any pocket after the break.
  • Moscow: Players must hit a cushion after hitting the object ball to make it a legal shot.
  • Dynamic: Similar to Moscow, but the cue ball is respoted if pocketed, and the object ball must be pocketed first.
